- 4' barrel, 9mm caliber. Has a stock lug, blank chamber area and marked extractor and safety. Early example of Mauser Luger. Front toggle link is still marked DWM. Leftover parts were intermixed with new Mauser parts in production of this pistol. One of the first Lugers to be finished with 'Salt' blue process. Approximately 500 manufactured with one- to four-digit serial numbers, with letter 'v' suffix.

Another example of Luger engineering. This was designed as a precision weapon and with the extended barrel and 800m rear sight make it formidable. Located serial numbers under the side plate and with the Crown N commercial nitro proof. The finishing on these guns is outstanding. Right: The serial number appears on the thumb safety.

Suffixes are placed on a Luger AFTER it has reached the first 10,000 guns for that series and are primarily placed on military guns. There are commercial, contract serial numbers and even mixtures of military style and commercial style numbers that may have assorted markings and even suffixes. Numbering usually went from 1-9,999 then 1a to 9999a, then 1b to 9999b, etc., although there is conflicting discussions on whether the serial numbers went from 1 ā 9999 or whether they were 1 ā 10,000 . I have seen pictures of guns marked both ways, 9,999 and 10,000. |
